What inspired you to become a therapist?

I worked for many years as a HR Manager and I found myself helping staff more and more with personal problems, which quite often included struggles with their mental health. I decided to take some basic counselling training to improve my ability to help. I loved it so much that I couldn’t stop. I progressed on to degree level training, and the rest is history as they say!

What do you love most about your work?

All the wonderful people I meet every day and seeing them realise their own worth and potential. It’s magic!

Who is your biggest role model and why?

My mum. She is one of the strongest people I know and she never gives up, despite experiencing some times of great sadness in her life. She is in her seventies now, still very independent and is an inspiration to me every day.

What do you do to unwind in your spare time?

I usually spend time with family. Nothing special, just relaxing. Maybe a walk on the beach which is about ten minutes from my house. I love to be close to the sea.

If you could trade places with someone for a week, who would it be and why?

Probably the Chief Executive of Waterstones! I could have constant free access to as many books as I could read. I think I may be developing an obsession with books. I love the smell and feel of a book (weird I know!). I can’t stop buying them.
