Alongside our wide range of talking therapies, Focus also offers a range of government approved therapies for depression and anxiety, including:

Guided Self-help is a structured set of sessions that can be tailored towards your specific circumstances. You will be introduced to tools and techniques that can help you overcome your difficulties and to stay well in the future. Sessions can help you with mild to moderate low mood, anxiety and worry, panic and sleep difficulties.

CBT is a structured therapy that explores patterns of thinking and how these influence your feelings and behaviour, leading to low mood or anxiety. CBT aims to help you change these unhelpful patterns of thinking in order to overcome your anxiety or depression. CBT has been widely researched and proven to treat a variety of conditions, including anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and chronic fatigue.

CfD is a time-limited approach for depression, combining the well-known person-centred approach with emotion focused therapy. CfD aims to help you get in touch with the emotions underlying your depression, to express these, make sense of them and develop new ways of looking at yourself and the world around you.
CTfD is aimed at couples where one, or both people are experiencing low mood that indicates depression. CTfD aims to explore how depression affects both people in the relationship, how couples can change the way they communicate with and behave towards each other so that both people in the relationship can cope better with the depression and offer each other more support.

IPT is a structured treatment for moderate to severe depression. It aims to help reduce the symptoms of depression by focussing on and addressing relationship difficulties. These can include: disputes or disagreements in relationships that trigger symptoms of depression; life changes that impact your mood, such as becoming a parent or losing a job; major loss or bereavement that may cause you to feel stuck in depression; difficulty starting or maintaining satisfying relationships.

Many people have experienced a traumatic event in their lives that is impacting on their current mood. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is therapy specifically aimed at treating post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR focuses on trying to reduce the emotional distress caused by the traumatic event by working to change the way the brain processes information, so that you no longer relive the images, sounds and feelings when the event is brought to mind.

I feel I have made a good deal of progress with Focus Counselling and continue to use strategies I have learned in my day-to-day life.
