Level 2 Award in Counselling Skills

• To Introduce the Gestalt approach to counselling
• To invite the learner to consider the application of a Person-Centred approach and Gestalt approach in a counselling context and develop self-awareness
• Encourage the learner to consider the process of change for themselves and others
• Allow the learner to gain practical experience through working in triads
• To keep a week-by-week reflective journal and a piece of work demonstrating growing self-awareness

• 6 weeks (5 weeks online and 1 week in-person)

• This is a vocational course, therefore 100% attendance is expected and contributes towards a pass mark
• 1000 word assignment
• 600 word process journal

• Level 3 and onwards – passing Level 2 does not guarantee acceptance on a Level 3 course. Providers that accept Level 2 in Counselling or equivalent (usually subject to application and interview). Some providers may require an accredited course.

Focus has agreed progression routes as follows:

SCPTI – Scarborough Counselling & Psychotherapy Training Institute – UKCP accredited (various)

Grimsby Institute – ABC Level 3 in Counselling Skills, Foundation Diploma Award followed by Degree level

East Riding College – Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills followed by Level 4 Diploma in Counselling

These learning providers welcome applicants from Focus Counselling *subject to application and interview *correct as of December 2023.

• Level 1 in Counselling – all students must start with Level 1 and work through the levels, whatever their professional or academic background
