Course Aims
- To Introduce the learner to the person-centred approach to counselling
- To develop communication and listening skills
- Encourage the learner to become more self-reflective
- Allow the learner to gain practical experience through working in triads
- To keep a week-by-week reflective journal for self-reflection, to show and develop self-awareness
Duration
- 7 weeks
Assessment
- This is a vocational course, therefore 100% attendance is expected and contributes towards a pass mark
- 600 word assignment
- 500 word process journal
Progression Routes
- Level 2 – Award in Counselling Skills (Certificates awarded by Focus Counselling)
- Level 3 – Award in Counselling Skills & Theory (Certificates awarded by Focus Counselling)
- Level 4 – Providers who accept Level 3 in Counselling or equivalent (usually subject to application and interview) *some may require an accredited course
SCPTI – Scarborough Counselling & Psychotherapy Training Institute – UKCP accredited (various)
Grimsby Institute – Foundation Diploma Award followed by Degree level
These learning providers welcome applicants from Focus Counselling *subject to application and interview *correct as at November 2022
